Qualification of a leather manufacturer in Bangladesh

A German leather goods retailer who is producing in a joint venture factory in Bangladesh, was another partner of a successful PPP project*. Main focus was to prepare the factory for significant expansion of its production which was going to create several hundreds of new, well paid jobs for mainly female workers who are usually deprived in the local society. The factory is meant to serve as a role model for the whole Bangladeshi leather industry.

Following activities took place within the project:

  • Development and implementation of an internal education and training system including an own training center
  • Establishment of an internal audit team for ensuring compliance with social and environmental standards during production 
  • Implementation of an improved quality assurance and training of a quality management team
  • Qualification of a supplying tannery in regards of social, environmental, production and quality standards 
  • Initiating and strengthening of cooperation with education partners and other industrial partners like associations
